25 Feb 2013

first of all, have you seen THIS? :) http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/list-of-58-additional-missions-created i'm sure you have...... so so so exciting!! :) :) :)

soooo... i'm in Appleton! and it's definitely been an adjustment, new area, new companion & everything, but it's been good :) i'm trying to find the balance between doing things the way i've "always" (all 11 weeks haha) done it and the way it's done here. :) ps - you can just always send mail to the mission home address, it gets to me like 1 day later and that address never changes... 5651 broad st suite 1 greendale wi 53129 :) we're not really supposed to give out our phyisical addresses i guess? whoops haha, who knew! :) we live in a little house in appleton, so cute. it's pretty big too (for missionary housing), and the bed is SUPER comfortable. so that's great :) we hold the bathroom door open with a can of pickled peppers, if that gives you some idea of how we're living hahah ;)

the ward here is great, and there's a large Hmong population here so they're all in our ward and we have hmong-speaking elders that translate sacrament meeting, and a hmong sunday school class and everything. hmong looks likes scribbles to me so i'm glad i don't have to speak it haha. i did learn how to say hello though! it's like... wait i forget.... nao shong or something. now jong. zzjong. it's hard to spell and i'm pretty sure i'm not even saying it right haha. oh well, they love it. :) so yeah, the ward is great! also they have a calling for the youth called "ward youth indexer" :) pretty cool i thought! and mom - you'll love this - the pianist for Relief Society used to play in bars and saloons and you can TOTALLY tell during prelude hahah i was dyingggg so so funny. Also, some of the hmong people have asian/midwest accents. and the 1st counselor in the bishopric has a new zealand / midwest accent. so fun :)

also...... we had 0 investigators the day i got here. so we've been tearing though the area book and have made plans to contact all the potentials and all the formers who didn't specifically tell us not to come back haha. and we'll also be visiting all the part-member families in the ward this week :) that's how we met the C! Such a cute family - he's less-active, returning to activity, she's met with missionaries before and even had planned to be baptized but then life got crazy and it didn't happen.... but this time it will! and they've got 3 of the cutest kids EVER. so sweet :) also, we visited a former investigator family (something i've never done before!) and the husband was nice! he told us to call back in two weeks! hooray! i don't feel as afraid of knocking doors here, maybe because i'm new and i've got nothing to lose? Sister R really doesn't like tracting or visiting people who might potentially be angry or offended, and Sister C LOVED tracting and visiting people, so that's been an adjustment as well. very different styles of missionary work. :)

We're also pretty much out of miles so we walk a lot.... in the snow.... haha it's just so classic missionary. Yesterday we walked to church (only about 20 minutes) but it was just so hilarious to me the whole time haha. and the Hmong-speaking elders drove by and honked...... classy haha. but then they turned around and offered to at least carry our bags for us, so that was nice haha.

Sometimes, missionary work means having conversations with people about asparagus prices while you're waiting for their husband to go grab their planner so you can set up an appointment. Sometimes I just look at myself and laugh hahah. How did I get here, in Appleton Wisconsin, talking to someone about the prices of asparagus??? Never could've seen that one coming hahaha :) :)

ALSO GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TODAY - WE HAVE A MOUSE IN OUR HOUSE. it ran through the kitchen & bedroom this morning! so we chased it into the laundry room...... did you know i'm afraid of mice?? me either..... until today!!! ahhhhh... we didn't really know what to do hahah so we just texted our district leader and he said "give it a cookie" .... -_- not helpful hahaha. we'll figure it out :)

anyways Appleton is very pretty, TONS of snow, more than i've ever seen in my life, seriously. mountains of snow as tall as i am from where the snow plows push it up. craziness. :)

that's about all the news i've got... it's been a pretty slow week. mostly just adjusting to a new area & companion :) it's been interesting, since sister r has a different idea of what some things mean than sister c is, and i'm learning to balance between doing it "my way" "the right way" and having companionship unityy & love. because if we don't have good feelings towards each other, we won't have the spirit and we can't teach. i LOVE teaching, it's like the lifeblood of the mission (as aunt charlene said.) any advice for me on finding that balance? what do i sacrifice to have peace in our home, and what do i hold on to? what do i accept as just a different, but still good, way of doing things, and where do i make suggestions for improvements? Sister R only has one transfer left! craziness... and me with just two under my belt haha :)

that's about all from here! i'll respond to your letters separately maybe? :) love you love you so so much!!!!!!

xoxoxo

SISTER Proffit

also, since pretty much all i listen to is the 2013 efy cd, the cds you all sent me, and the one from kimberly ann / anne, i thought i'd give a recommendation...... "good start" by james warren :) https://www.lds.org/youth/music?lang=eng we listen to it while we exercise hahaha. love you!!

xox

Appleton is great! Right now more snow than anything haha no apples yet.... we're right on Lake Winnebago (who knew that was a real place???) and the Fox River, so that's fun. it should be really beautiful come spring. not that it isn't pretty right now... haha just LOTS OF SNOW. :) also there's a paper mill.... so you can smell that sometimes haha. we get to volunteer at the paper discovery center museum though! and help make paper! fun fun! "LOOK I MADE THIS!" ;) hahaha thanks for helping me go get those shoes............ hilarious hahaha. glad you had fun!! hey CONGRATS YOU GOT INTO BYU!!!!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOOOOO GO COUGARS! ;) i would definitely recommend being very very prayerful and in tune with the Spirit about your decision to go to BYU now or later and for how long. The Lord's timing is perfect. Be in tune with what He wants for your life, and then go and follow that courageously :) being in tune with the Spirit comes by doing the basic things you already know, and there are no short-cuts or cheats. you need to be studying in the Book of Mormon every single day. You need to be saying morning & evening prayers. & you need to be living worthily. :) the Spirit comes as you do these things. Ideas will cross your mind. if you want to know if they're from God, all you've gotta do is pray and ask :) This is a decision that only you can make, and it's a big one. It'll be great mission/life-prep :) Practically, my advice would be to attend at least a semester of college before going on a mission; I think you'll learn a lot of skills that will be very important for your mission. I met a lot of Elders in the MTC who were fresh out of high school and it was HARD. a mission is hard anyways, but that just seemed really extremely hard to not have any "in-between" stage. it's hard not being able to call or text mom whenever you need her. I would definitely recommend at least a semester away from home before your mission. There's a lot of growing that happens during that time :) That being said, this is YOUR decision. get all the advice you can, but at the end of the day do what God has called you to do. I know that this matters to Him even more than it matters to any of the rest of us, and I know that you'll make the best decision for you as you are prayerful and in tune with the Spirit :) and don't stress too much about it. God is in control. He runs the master plan. He's our Captain; this is His work. Nothing will ever go seriously wrong if we're in tune with His Spirit and have our lives centered on Jesus Christ :) I know that's true. Anyways, enough missionary talk haha.... I love you so much bud!! You're a champion to me and I know you're an amazing missionary wherever you go. Missionaries are just representatives of Jesus Christ, and you don't need a nametag for that to happen :)

what an adjustment -- only 4 kids! what a small table & roomy bedroom! haha. make sure those future elders know how to play the hymns!! they'll wish they could for sure :) yeah just send me pictures of whatever... so i don't forget what your faces look like haha ;) just kidding. i dunno. just whatever the kids put on facebook i guess? whatever :)

Yes, we call everyone Brother & Sister! That's what it says to do in the Missionary Handbook, and I know that blessings come when we're exactly obedient to that! :) We use the first "How to Begin Teaching" bullet point to explain it, and it's awesome because it teaches a gospel truth, and then it demonstrates right away that we take the truth seriously! We do things differently because of what we know! We change! We're a little bit weird! haha. We say something like, "Because God is our Heavenly Father, we are all brothers and sisters. We would like to refer to you as brothers and sisters." :) Sometimes people are like, "no just call me my first name" but it's a good opportunity to teach such an important gospel truth :)

 yes, miracles are all around us, but sometimes they are hard to see! I think a good example of that is Joseph (Matthew 1) and Mary (John 20... i think). Miracles are all around us, we just need eyes to see them! ·  Mosiah 8:18 Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.2 Nephi 27:23 For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever;

:) pretty awesome. Miracles happen wherever there is faith!! so wherever there is faith... there WILL be miracles!!

I can't believe I'm already on my second area!! TWO transfers behind me!!! almost 4 months done!!! what the.....?? haha it's crazy.

Seriously though.... when we put God first, he blesses us. That's something we teach over & over & over & over again to investigators. 3 Ne 13:31-33 or something like that. God KNOWS all your needs. He knows how busy you are, how much you need this/that/whatever. He's asking you to put Him first so that He can give you every blessing He has to offer :) :) so awesome. It's a hard promise for people to trust in though!! they want all their needs to be taken care of first, and THEN they'll come to church / pay tithing / read scriptures / etc. Nope! doesn't work that way :)

19 Feb 2013

okay MIRACLE.... Sister S is REALLY super shy, & we ask her to say the closing prayer every lesson and then we all hold our breath for like 30 seconds and then she says "no, i can't do it" so we either say okay & one of us says it, or we talk a bit about it, ask her again, hold our breath again, and she says no again. haha. but THIS week, we take her on a church tour, and then afterwards i say, "who would you like to say the closing prayer?" and she takes a deep breath, then bows her head and SAYS THE CLOSING PRAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which.... seriously, if you only knew...... is a miracle. next miracle - getting her to church! she doesn't really like to be around people/strangers so that's gonna take a while but it's going to happen! awesome :) i love her!! she is such a great lady :) :)

I love Sister E so much!!!! she is seriously SUCH an inspiration. She has come SO far & has such a great desire to live the gospel. Pretty much every week she has an amazing inspiring story to tell us and i love it. Last time we went over we read with her from where she's at in the Book of Mormon (which she reads EVERY DAY..... do you?? ;) ) which happened to be Alma 62, which is perfect because we wanted to talk about verses 4&5 anyways about raising the standard of liberty wherever you go & how thousands will flock to it... & we invited her to pray for opportunities to share the gospel and she said she would. WELL THEN yesterday we went to see her and she goes (without us even asking) "okay a couple of things happened but i'm not sure if they count....." basically while she was at work (she drives for FedEx) her boss & a coworker were talking about what religion all of the drivers are & one of them was like "i don't think we have any mormon drivers..." and the boss was like "yeah huh, b!" and b was like "yeah i'm a mormon!" and then they grilled her with questions about all kinds of things & she explained how she's quit drinking alcohol & coffee & even tea & her coworker was asking her all these questions and she's like "i don't know! i just know i'm happier now!" & all these things. SO we invited her to give him a copy of the "word of wisdom" pamphlet & she agreed :) and THEN she told us about how an old friend that she's not really friend's with anymore had a grandma pass away & B just felt like she ought to go over and talk to her and i guess her friend's daughter is having a really hard time with it so B invited them to come to church with her & her friend said she didn't have a car & b said that missionaries would come right to her door! hahaha so she gave us her friend's address & everything and we gave it to the Kenosha Sisters... and at first Sister E was like "don't tell her I sent you" but then she was like "actually, why not? i'm not ashamed of this" :) :) :) :) so BASICALLY, she's awesome. AND, she's been working really hard to quit drinking tea and it's been hard for her since she hates tap water & her fiancee (who she lives with) only buys alcohol & tea basically. SO the other day she was REALLY REALLY THIRSTY and all they had was tea and tap water and she was like "i'm just gonna drink the tea! i've been really good and it's just once and no one will ever know!" so she got it out and poured it and then just looked at it, and looked at it, and looked at it... and put it away and drank TAP WATER. !!!! so basically, Sister E is the champion of everything and i love her so so much. she has such a determination to live the gospel & she knows it blesses her life, and even though it's hard she keeps moving forward :) :) :)

also -- about the G's, I forgot - one of the really cool things about being a missionary is being able to make promises to people. We invited the Gs to pray as a family and individually every single day for opportunities to share the gospel & promised them that if they did so, an opportunity would happen within the week. which isn't a promise we make to just anybody... but we (sister casdorph & i) both just felt right about it! so that's pretty cool :)

awwwwwwwwwww A & J & S & S!!!! :) :) :) :) LOVE THEM love them :) :) we had another great family home evening last night!! we made valentines from Heavenly Father to us & talked about ways we know Heavenly Father loves us... Br. J said "problems" & Sister D said "prayer" & "forgiveness." we spent a lot of time talking about how He forgives us & how we can forgive ourselves & others. we also watched the Mormon Message "reclaimed." so good. :) and then we ate those valentine fruit snacks!! thanks, mom!! :) :) :) also S did not bite me this week. hooray! hahah. he likes to grab my name tag off my coat & run away with it... so i covered it with my hand... so he bit my hand to try and lift it off hahaha. but obviously i didn't say anything cause that's not helpful.... hahaha just so funny!!! cute kid ;)

Brother & Sister M!! the WML & his wife :) I feel that Sister M & Gramma Proffit would be really good friends.... :) So Br & Sis M used to be (in their own words) "crazy old drunks" hahah. they used to drink & smoke a LOT - Brother M showed us a picture from before his baptism 20 yrs ago and he was SCARY looking hahaha he had this big beard & looked like what he was - a tough ol' motorcycler! like one of Hell's Angels hahah. the gospel changes lives! :)

also - Sister M LOVES to feed us and I'm like 2304982390lbs in this picture hahah. oh well....................

oh yeah.............. I'm being transferred!!!!!!!!!! I leave for APPLETON tomorrow at 7am!!! Sister Casdorph will drive me to Milwaukee where I'll get on the "Fun Bus" & head up to Appleton to meet my new companion, Sister Ross!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I'm so sad to leave!! I love the people here & I feel like there is SO much potential in this area........... but Appleton will be great too............. but right now I love Racine hahaha :) :)

this is the craziest least organized letter ever hahaha. a random quote from Weekly Planning Day (Thursday) - trying to draft a text message to a potential investigator who keeps canceling & rescheduling - "Happy Valentines Day, how's your week going, can we come by & share the gospel?"

maybe that's not that funny to you hahaha but we laughed really hard..... stress will do that to ya haha.

also we put food as a "back-up plan" some days.... does that mean we're working hard enough? :) 3 Ne 13:31! (Matt 6:31

oh this is for Lyndy - and the rest of you - Brother B went to school with John Metusek? or something? he plays sloth in the Goonies..... fun fact!

alsooooooooo guess who came to church!!! Inez! from district meeting!! and her whole family came too! hooray!! :) :) :)

Also this is Brother Bs' parting advice to me:
- Never buy a mansfield toilet- Never eat chittlins (pig intestines)- Get the piece of paper! (college degree) - No one is guaranteed a room at 72 degrees. (we all have trials)

also, can I get Ali Kilpatrick's address? :) and dad - you had a referral from a member of our stake? in wausau? can i get that address? :)

Other miracles...... we're meeting with a Sister who is returning to activity who is AWESOME... she was going to move in with her boyfriend in Milwaukee (mi'waukee) (muh-wah-kee), but she was praying and asking God for a sign and then her best friend (who is Sister Y's little sister) was like "hey i'm mormon and i'm going to go back to church, do you want to come?" & Sister R was like "whaaaaaaaaat? i'm mormon too!!" so now they're both coming back to church :) :) :) and she told her boyfriend "hey i'm going to live the law of chastity, I love you but I love God more, so if you can't handle that just let me know" and he came back after a few days and was okay with it! and he's reading the Book of Mormon with her & they're talking about it! they're on chapter 15! are you reading the Book of Mormon every day? if not....... get on that :) :) so so important!!! it makes a HUGE difference. seriously. anyways... that was a miracle :) and i don't know if i told you this already but her first Sunday she decided to come back to church EVERYTHING went wrong... dryer didn't work, clothes were wet, car wouldn't start, etc etc etc - but every time something happened she would just say "I AM DETERMINED!!!" and she made it to church!!! and she is amazing!! and i just love her so much!! so, so sad to be leaving her. but! there will be good memories in Appleton as well :) :)

AND finally, one last tender mercy. We went to see Brother R yesterday with Sister M (who I LOVE) and we were planning on bringing brownies for a little family home evening treat, but we didn't do the timing super great so they still had (at least) 3 minutes left in the oven when it was time to go! sooooooo we turned off the oven & just left them, which was sad. so we were kind of bummed we didn't have a treat to bring but we hadn't told anyone we were bringing them so it was okay. so we had a lovely little meeting with Brother R, talking about who he knows that he can share the gospel with, and then at the end, Sister M pulls out two bags of McDonald's cookies and was like, "I don't know, I just felt like I should bring these!" and we had our family home evening treat after all!!!  things like that are so small, but it's honestly things like that that let me know that we do have a Heavenly Father who loves us & watches out for us. brownies = not a big deal, McDonald's cookies = 3 for $1. but it meant so much to us, & there was no way Sister M could've known. So grateful she listened to the Spirit! :) :) love love love

& I guess we'll end with this awesome quote from Jeffrey R. Holland that meant a lot to me when I read it last week -- it's from this http://www.lds.org/ensign/2000/03/cast-not-away-therefore-your-confidence?lang=eng) awesome talk that i haven't read but i'm sure is awesome :)

"Once there has been illumination, beware the temptation to retreat from a good thing. If it was right when you prayed about it and trusted it and lived for it, it is right now. Don’t give up when the pressure mounts. Certainly don’t give in to that being who is bent on the destruction of your happiness. Face your doubts. Master your fears. “Cast not away therefore your confidence.” Stay the course and see the beauty of life unfold for you." :) :) :)

i love you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! families can be together forever :) :) :)

& i promise i'll respond to letters soon!! today is crazy busy (yuck, packing!) but i promise promise promise to write everyone back soon!!! i love you!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

hahaha what a great email :) i love the stories!! i laughed out loud! in the library! haha :) today is a crazy busy day but i promise to write more & respond better next email!! i have so many letters to respond to hahah. i'll write you next from APPLETON!!! :) :) :)

Elders and Sisters!

What a wonderful time to be missionaries for the Lord Jesus Christ. With new transfers and new companions, it's a great opportunity start again and be the best we can be. While watching a sunrise, I was amazed to see how it started as just a sliver, peaking over the horizon. With in a matter of minutes, and almost imperceptibly, it was completely in view and a bright new day had begun.
So it is with each transfer. Almost without us noticing, new transfers and adventures break upon us and we have new opportunities to refresh our commitment to the Lord and His work. Remember the words from Hymn # 217: Come, let us anew our journey pursue, Roll round with the year and never stand still till the Master appear. His adorable will let us gladly fulfill, and our talents improve By the patience of hope and the labor of love, By the patience of hope and the labor of love.
We truly are engaged in a labor of love. Let us use transfers to renew ourselves in commitment, faith, obedience or whatever we need to serve our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ more fully.

Love,
Elder Stephen L. Serrano & Elder Bradley D. Johnson

13 Feb 2013

sooooooooooo this week was great :) a miracle happened! well miracles always happen haha but it's just fun when you can see them :) :) the coolest thing......... yesterday (tuesday) was district meeting. oh ps, we switched our p-day this week so we could go to the temple.... that's why i didn't write last monday. sorry. :)

soo yesterday, Sister Casdorph & I were early to District Meeting! but that's not the main miracle (ha ha ha...) ;) ps thank you so much for the package!!!! I was JUST thinking that i wished i had that "echoes of the sabbath cd" and it came! & Aunt Kimberly Ann sent me a CD from Anne that has mo-tab on it, which is great since that's all sister casdorph likes to listen to on Sundays. so now we have sunday car music :) :) :) can you send me my efy cd? & can you actually make a copy & send two? Elder Church wants a copy........ & i owe him since he gave us a copy of his efy 2k13 cd and it's kind of GREAT hahaha. :) alsoooooooo the Lower Lights cd would be great. :)

ANYWAYS, we were listening to "echoes of the sabbath" & waiting in the car for the song to finish, then when we got out of the car someone pulled up -- it was Sister F, from the ward! & she had someone in the front seat!

"Oh hello Sisters! I didn't know you would be here! This is my friend -- how do you say your name again?" "I" "Oh yes, I. I was just driving and I saw her jogging home so I picked her up to give her a ride, and we just got to talking and I wanted to show her my church! How fun that you guys are here!"

sooooooooo obviously Sister Casdorph & I go over to introduce ourselves, & she's hispanic so I say "We actually have spanish-speaking missionaries here right now, would you like to meet them?" & she said yes so we went over to the church doors while Sister F parked & called Elder Kanahele...

*ring ring* "Hello?"
"Hello Elder. There's someone here who speaks spanish and would like to meet with you. Can you come to the front doors please?"
"... Sure."

"Great, see you in a bit."

So Elder Kanahele grabs Elder Baker (who also speaks spanish) & we catch them up really quick while I & Sister F are getting out of the car. and I don't speak spanish but basically.... they gave her a church tour & taught her first lesson right then & invited her to be baptized! um, what?? so so awesome!!!!!!! what a MIRACLE for them!!!!!!! :) :) :) Elder Baker swapped with Elder Ashcraft (E. Kanahele's companion) & Elder Baker led district meeting (E Kanahele usually does) while we waited. so, that was awesome.

What if we hadn't been early?
What if we hadn't waited in the car to finish the song?
What if Sister F hadn't followed the prompting to pick this stranger up? & take her to her church?
What if we hadn't thought to mention the spanish elders?

GOD'S PERFECT TIMING. that's all I have to say :) :) & how often to you just randomly drive to the church & there's a dozen missionaries there? hahaha i just LOVE IT!!! :) :)

so anyways, i'm loving teaching the gospel & i think i'm finally getting the language down... I teach about GAD & his GASPEL & how we can know the truth through the HOHLY GHOHST ;) i wish i could send you a recording of how some of these people talk hahaha but seriously.... i've heard myself start to talk about Gad & His Gaspel & i kind of crack myself up :) ah, a mission :)

alsooooooooooo last monday (p-day) we went shopping. & I put yogurt in a strangers cart. so that was awkward & fun. she didn't want to hear about the gaspel..... oh well ;)

also you can buy snow plow attachments for your cars.

FHE has been so so fun!! last monday J even sang along to "Love at Home" !!!!! & when we sang "If I but learn to do His will, I'll live with Him once more!" A goes "yessssssssss..." :) :)

ALSO the most hilarious thing of my LIFE -- we were teaching A & I said "Satan does not want you to live the Gospel!" & she goes "Well that's just too d--- bad!!" hahahahaha i ALMOST died :)))))))))))))

BASICALLY, being a missionary is awesome because I get to be an answer to someone's prayer. i think about all the prayers in our family for different family members & friends, & I get to be some OTHER gramma/cousin/friend/missionaries' answer to prayer. :) it's so so cool!! we went out to visit all the new Relief Society move-ins to see if they want VT's or whatever, & we could NOT find this one Sister's house, so we finally just parked & went out on foot, and eventually we found it (hooray for being cold! haha) & she let us in, turns out she's a recent convert (nov 2011) preparing to go to the temple who just moved in with her (non-member!) parents! & gave her mom a Book of Mormon! :) :) and that morning we had watched the "talk with everyone" training segment of the dvds since at Zone Training they talked about that, so on our trek back to our car we saw someone & i was like "dang it's cold let's keep walking" but sister casdorph was like "how about we listen to the Spirit & do missionary work" (basically ;)) so i was like "hmm okay" & we went and talked to them & the one lady wasn't interested but her friend was! she was like "oh you all are mormons, my mom's whole family is mormon, you all are great people, keep it up & you'll be happy" and i was like "thanks i'm cold bye" but sister casdorph was like "well our message is for everyone, can we come share it with you some time?" and she was like "Actually yeah, I'm looking for a new church, here's my number." !!!!!!! what the! so so cool! yeah Spirit!! :) :)

basically being a missionary is the best :) we also met a little kid like 12 yrs old who was playing in the snow & said "who are you looking for?" when we walked past so i said "people to talk to about Jesus, do you know anyone?" and he's like "yeah, my neighbor" & he walks with us and KNOCKS ON THE DOOR for us hahaha so that was awesome, & then someone else on the same street poked their head out & was like, "who are you?" "we're missionaries!" "what do you do, like hand out pamphlets & stuff?" "actually yeah, do you want one?" "sure, let me go grab a coat" so we taught him a lesson outside in about 17 degree weather & gave him a Book of Mormon & Restoration pamphlet & he's like "yeah I believe it's true, do you guys want to come back?" soooooooo obviously we set up a return appt & got his number haha.

so it's been fun! & cold! & mudge keeps sliming me! & shane keeps biting me! haha but it's all good, it's all good cause this is the Lord's work & we are on His errand! :) :)

We've been praying super hard for members of this ward to have missionary experiences and it's CRAZY how INSTANTLY God has answered those prayers! seriously, sometimes we'll be like "...amen." *bzz. bzz." "oh look, a text from Sister [whatever], she wants to know what she should say to her friend about the Book of Mormon."

".... amen." "ring, ring." "hello, sister proffit?" "hello sisters! just wanted to let you know i just [talked to my friend about the gospel/gave her a Book of Mormon/etc]" haha it's AWESOME!!! this is the way to do missionary work! :) :)

Brother Y is still on track for baptism, we invited him to teach US the lessons since he's heard them so many times & that's been really great, he has great insights. he put the Book of Mormon on his mp3 player so he listens to like half the Book of Mormon every day at work instead of the gossip & he's been so much happier lately!! i'll have to tell you some of his great insights later :) he has a CRAZY past... like seriously unbelievable. but he's here now! & he's ready for baptism in two weeks!! :) :)

also, John 14:5-6, 15, 18, 26-27.

also, we're helping Sister D to teach the FHE lessons & at one point during the text conversation she's like "yeah i can help teach that. are there any scriptures?" !!!!!!!!!! are there ever!! so cool! maybe that's only cool to me haha but i loved it :) :) her faith is growing so much!!! now she just needs to GET MARRIED UGH STOP PROCRASTINATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God wants to bless you so much more!!! obey obey obey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mission scripture for the month is -- 1 ne 17:3

also, i might be moving soon so just use the mission address on mail, that way i still get all my letters & everything even if i don't stay in Racine :) I hope i do though!! i love it here!!!!!!!!!

hymn 60 - "He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat!" :)

for personal scripture study i've been reading the Isaiah chapters, 1 page at a time, looking up ALL the footnotes in the Bble & the Book of Mormon, and it's actually been really great! it takes like an hour a page haha with all the re-reading but it's been so cool! if you want an awesome story... try 2 Kings 19-19/Isa 36-37/2 Chr 32! also 2 Chr 30 was cool too :)

4 Feb 2013

hello! i hope you had a wonderful week, i look forward to getting your letter in the mail :) i've recieved lots of lovely letters lately! (say that 5 times fast) :) & i really will write everyone back!! haha it's just been crazy busy on p-days lately, trying to get everything in before TRANSFERS on feb 20th!!!! we're hoping to go to the temple on the 13th and also go visit lake michigan and take pictures and maybe even THE CHEESE CASTLE....... yes that is a real place hahaha. but of course i'm most excited to go to the temple :) :) :) anyways it might take me a while to write everyone back but i promise i will! i love the letters so so much!!! :)

so NATHAN IS GOING TO THE MTC THIS WEEK!! whoooo-ooooooooooo!!! so so so exciting. you will just LOVE it. it's like summer camp for missionaries. greatest place on earth. well one of. :) so exciting! yeah missions! :)

sooooooo last monday we had family home evening with Sister D & her family, since she heard a lot about it at church and wanted to know more! we sang "i am a child of God" and "love at home" and then talked about the "prayer sandwich" and played animal charades (SO FUNNY) and ate brownies :) we're going over tonight again for home evening and this time they're in charge of the activity, so that should be fun :) we're planning on reading helaman 5:12 and teaching s & s "the wise man & the foolish man" for lesson -- complete with actions, of course :) anyways that was super fun. yeah family home evening! Br J even joined in and said it was really fun :) and we showed s friend.lds.org and after we left A texted us "s is coloring on that website you showed her and trying to sing love at home lol" hahah awww. so now she calls it "jesus.com" and always wants to go on it :) :) so that was fun. & when we went back to see them on Friday Sister D was watching President Uchtdorf online haha love it :) :)

for Book of Mormon sharing.......... I like 1 Ne 18:24 b

ecause it shows that the people were 100% committed. no "back-up plan" in case things didn't work. that's how we've gotta be! 100% committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. don't hold anything back in reserve in case it doesn't "pan out" or whatever :) love it.

also we've been listening to the new efy cd & there's a song on there where they use scriptures and one of them is "And they put to death every Nephite who will not deny the Christ... and I, Moroni, will Not Deny the Christ." & it gives us chills every time!!! aaaaaaahh shoot. it makes me think about how we do or do not deny Jesus Christ every single day... in our actions, what we do/don't say, all that. It's pretty obvious that if someone asks you "hey deny Jesus or I'll kill you" what the answer is supposed to be. but are there more subtle ways satan tries to get us to deny the Christ? is keeping silent a form of denying Christ? what about our actions? I always, always, always want to Not Deny the Christ. I want everything about me to declare how much I love Him!!!!!!!!! there should be no doubt in anyone's mind ever that I love Jesus Christ and know Him absolutely to be the Savior & Redeemer of the world & everything He claimed to be. hallelujah!! :) :)

um so on tuesday it was 60 degrees???? and it rained all afternoon????? so weirdly warm!!! and then it dropped back to around 0 hahaha brrrrrr. we went to the danish bakery on wednesday for a snack & the girl behind the counter asked what our nametags were for so we got to tell her, which was fun. and she said she could tell i was from out of town since i say "wis-CON-sin" haha it was funny to hear her imitate my "accent" haha.

ps -- there's an elder here from Tigard Oregon! wondered if Shaelyn or anyone knew him... his name is Elder Tanner Green. great elder. fun connection :)

the snow here is so fluffy! (i'm gonna dieeeeeeee!)

& with all the people here who live together it makes me think of that thing from like 2nd grade -- "i love pizza!" "then why don't you marry it????" ha ha ha.... but seriously. why won't these people just get married hahaha. basically, keeping the commandments would save everyone a ton of grief, the end, amen.

today we went to a huge giganto grocery store with Sister E**** and the cheese aisle.......... so huge. so. huge. we bought cranberry cinnamon cheese and it's actually pretty good! mmmm :) & last night we had Sunday dinner with the B***** and the main topic of conversation, no joke, was everybody's favourite types of cheese hahah. so good :)

wellll i don' have much to say! (for once haha) it's been a pretty good week! great lessons, great people... great miracles :) it's just cool to get to testify about the gospel and just straight up say "this is the truth and i know that it's true or else i wouldn't be in wisconsin where it's minus 8 degrees!" hahah. i literally did say that to someone on Saturday haha :) she laughed and was like yeah there's gotta be something to this for you to come out here! :) so that's fun.

brother y***** came to church finally! hooray! so he's on track to be baptized on the 23rd :) & sister h***** is on track for baptism in march. :)

thanks so much for all your prayers, dear family!! i'm grateful every day for you & i pray for you in every prayer :)

love love love love love

xoxoxoxoxo :) :)
